Title: We Can Be Heroes: Preventing Bullying in the Perioperative Workplace
Dr. Rebecca Roe is an experienced nurse with more than 40 years of clinical and professional practice across a wide range of nursing roles. With a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree, she is dedicated to preparing the next generation of nurses through education and mentorship. Her expertise is centered on adult health and surgical nursing, with a strong focus on improving workplace culture and patient-centered care. Dr. Roe is a passionate advocate for addressing workplace incivility and bullying, promoting respectful, supportive healthcare environments where nurses empower and advocate for one another.
Experts expound on bullying and advise on how to manage bullying and how to prevent workplace violence. Despite all efforts, one out of two workers is affected by bullying, with women being the most likely targets. Research provides organizations with practical strategies to cure a toxic culture, but it takes time and committed leadership to start the detoxification process. Meanwhile, nurses, in a perioperative environment, must survive. As warriors against bullying, perioperative nurses need basic training to protect their mental and physical health while reclaiming their lost power. This presentation provides practices to help perioperative nurses become heroes in their stories.
