Cultural Competence in Nursing

Cultural competence in nursing is the ability to provide safe, effective, and quality care to patients from different cultural backgrounds. It's a lifelong process that involves considering patients' values, beliefs, customs, traditions, health beliefs, religion, and human philosophy.

Cultural competence is important in healthcare because it can help:

  • Reduce healthcare inequalities
  • Improve patient trust
  • Improve healthcare quality
