Biography

Gianna Koukouzeli is a Registered Nurse, MSc holder, and PhD candidate with extensive experience in perioperative and surgical nursing in Greece and Belgium. She currently works at AHEPA University Hospital in Thessaloniki and is pursuing her PhD at the University of the Peloponnese. Her professional and academic interests include surgical nursing, public health, education, chronic disease management, and nursing research.

Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) and robotic-assisted surgery are increasingly integrated into modern healthcare systems, transforming surgical care delivery and nursing practice. However, the perceptions, attitudes, and preparedness of nurses and nursing students toward these technological advancements remain underexplored.

 

This study aims to investigate the attitudes, perceptions, and experiences of registered nurses and nursing students regarding the integration of AI and robotic surgery in surgical care.

 

A comparative mixed-methods study design will be employed. The quantitative phase will involve the administration of a structured questionnaire based on Likert-scale items assessing knowledge, attitudes, and perceived readiness. The qualitative phase will include open-ended questions to explore participants’ experiences and perspectives in greater depth. Participants will include nursing students and registered nurses from clinical and academic settings. Data will be analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics for quantitative data and thematic analysis for qualitative data.

 

The findings are expected to provide insights into educational needs, ethical considerations, and readiness for technological integration in nursing practice, contributing to curriculum development and clinical training strategies.
